[Geoserver-users] sld filter

Hi,

I'm new to geoserver and have a question about using filters in sld.
I've set up geoserver with a PostGIS database with several tables. For example, one is lat/lon gps data with timestamps, etc, another with US zip code areas and their boundaries. Is it possible to filter and display data based on, say, all the points that lie within a certain zip code using the style descriptors? Right now I have a view set up in the database to use as a featuretype, but is it possible without using the view? Does sld filters support queries that needs a join between tables?

Thank you.

Hi,

Unfortunately no you cannot do joins with sld filters...setting up the view as you have is probably the most viable approach.

I see, thanks.
So does that mean this applies to wfs requests also?

Yes... although there is some ongoing work that is an experimental stage that is meant to support wfs types which are made up of multiple simple datasources (tables). Its called the "complex feautres" project but is far from being supported in mainstream geoserver.
