[Geoserver-users] Update to latest version

How can I upgrade my geoserver installation to latest version without loosing all my layers configuration and settings?

Thank you.

PS.: I know there is a document out there but I cannot find it.

  1. backup your data_dir directory
  2. install the new version of geoserver
  3. erase the installed data_dir by the backuped one.

Ok, thank you, that is for the data, but what about my credit contact, user/password, and so on?

The same. Everything is stored into the data_dir. Despite the name,
it's more configuration than data. All of your data can in fact
reside outside of it.

If you set the GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR variable in WEB-INF/web.xml, you can keep the data_dir outside of the GeoServer tree. That allows you to centralize your data and rev the version of GeoServer independently. I'm using it right now on a project with GeoServer 1.6.bleedingEdge, and it has worked like a charm every time.

Cheers,
