[Geoserver-users] Using remote WFS

Hi all

Is it possible to use only the WMS server and choose which feature
server the WMS server should http connect to?

We are currently using geoserver as a means for getting spatial data.
We have remote data (remote for the map) which you can display in tables
and graphs. We have now added the use of geoserver (used a geotools
applet earlier). We are using SLD to add colours to the polygons.

Our "problem" is that many customers already have bought map systems for
a pretty steap price, and are very reluctant to replace that. We can't
convince them to do the change to a free alternative, and making them
keeping maps in two different locations in synch is not a option.
Many of these servers does not support SLD input, either not at all, or
in the form that we need (post, get or callback). Our need vary between
different installations.

So our thought was then to always use the geoserver wms and have a
consistent wms server that supports what we need, and use the different
customers WFS server as data input.

Is this possible to do with the geoserver. License-wise and technical?
To connect to a remote WFS server over http.

Thanks
