Hi,
I believe that a WCS coverage must have a same number of bands and for that reason coloured and greyscale images can’t be delivered as one coverage even if Geoserver should support it. At least that was the case with WCS 1.0.0. A few years ago we had a mixture of panchromatic and colour infrared images on the same layer which is no problem for Mapserver as WMS, but for WCS we had to build two separate coverages.

Hi,
- I have an image mosaic layer that consists of 1 band (panchromatic) and 3 band (RGB) images, if my WCS getCoverage request is over an area where both 1 band and 3 band images are present, GeoServer returns me an exception saying that it can’t deal with images that have different number of bands. Is there a way around this? Or is this intentional by design?
This is intentional by design: One of the constraints of a mosaic is that its granules should have same colorModel. This means that they should have same dataType (so you can’t have a mosaic of Float granules and Byte granules together) and same colors (so you can’t have a mosaic of Gray images and RGB images).
The strange thing is that it seems you have successfully configured a Layer with those images whilst you should have received a message like this “Skipping image YOURIMAGE because color models do not match.”, during mosaic configuration.
How did you configure your mosaic?
- I found that WCS performance is really poor if my image mosaic layer uses footprints to mask out blackfill. I presume the performance hit is because GeoServer is generating the transparency layer on the fly. Is this true?
Thanks,
Danny

Daniele
