[Geoserver-users] WMTS with Integrated version of GeoServer and GeoWebCache

My apologies…my ignorance is showing.

I am using the itegrated version of GeoServer and GeoWebCache on the Linux platform. One of the capabilities of GeoWebCache is WMTS. Yet, I do not see WMTS listed as one of the services on the GeoServer Admin page. Additionally, I do not see the .xml for the WMTS in the /geoserver/data/ folder. I do see WCS, WFS, and WMS .xml files.

Can someone please tell me if the integrated version of GeoServer and GeoWebCache can functin as a WMTS and, if so, why do I not see WMTS in the Admin menu of GeoServer.

The end goal is to be able to server tiles to a web client, with full scale, style, etc. capabilities.

Thanks, in advance.

Geomatney

Hi David,
You should see the WMTS getCapabilities even if you’ve disabled the integrated GeoWebCache.

The URL will be something like this if you want to test it.

http://localhost:8080/geoserver/gwc/service/wmts?REQUEST=GetCapabilities

What version of GeoServer are you using?

This transmission is intended for the named addressee(s) only and may contain sensitive or protectively marked material up to RESTRICTED and should be handled accordingly. Unless you are the named addressee (or authorised to receive it for the addressee) you may not copy or use it, or disclose it to anyone else. If you have received this transmission in error please notify the sender immediately. All email traffic sent to or from us, including without limitation all GCSX traffic, may be subject to recording and/or monitoring in accordance with relevant legislation.

···

Testing it now, the only way to get rid of WMTS GetCapabilities from the menu seems to be to disable it on the “Caching Defaults” menu:
“Enable WMTS Service” - make sure that’s ticked.

I do see “WMTS 1.0.0 GetCapabilities document” on the geowebcache home page. I have not done anything to manually change the document. All I have done, so far, is to install the integrated version of the GeoServer and GeoWebCache.

Should I see WMTS listed as a service on the Admin page of GeoServer?

How do I test that I have WMTS capabilities?

Hi David,
The purpose of the URL was to test to see if your WMTS is working. If you can see the XML, then it is.
What you need to do next depends entirely on what you want to do. If you want an external application to use WMTS, then you use that URL (minus the ?request… bit).

If you want to configure the WMTS - that can be done with the settings pages under the “tile caching” section of GeoServer.

Although it is odd that you don’t have a link to the WMTS GetCapabilities on your GeoServer Admin page.

Do I need to do something to start the WMTS part of the GeoServer?

Do I need to point the GeoServer to the WMTS Capabilities document, or vice versa?

How do I “try” it?

Hi David,
Ok, we seem to be talking at odds.
There is no “WMTS” set of settings. As I mentioned previously, to configure anything for WMTS (and all tile based services) you need to use the “Tile Caching” settings, at the bottom of your screenshot. Those configure all the tile related stuff.

Hope that clears it up.
