Hi Daniele,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
I was wondering if worldfiles allow me to use a png image. If so, what
extension would the world image metadata file have to be?Thanks,

I suppose you already have 2 files, a first one for the data and a
second one for the worldfile definition. (As an instance, sampledata.tif
and sampledata.tfw, in case you are working with tif world images)
You need to add a sampledata.prj file beside the other two, containing
the WKT definition of the CRS for the georeferencing.
Then you are ready to add the sample data within geoserver. The world
image plugin will look for a .prj file to find the proper Coordinate
Reference System definition.
In case you need to send your sample data via REST, zip the three files
within a single zip archive and send it with a Put request like this one:
http://localhost:8080/geoserver/rest/workspaces/topp/coveragestores/sample/file.worldimage
(make sure to specify application/zip as Content Type)Hope this helps.

I am interested in uploading World Image Files to Geoserver using the
ESRI standard:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_file
I was wondering as the World Image standard does not define a coordinate
system, how does one go about setting the coordinate system of a World
Image data store through the REST Configuration interface? Thanks!
