Anch'io vorrei fare qualcosa per quanto riguarda OSM ma non so come
muovermi e soprattutto se sono richieste grandi doti di programmatore,
oppure se posso imparare nel frattempo

Direi che serve una conoscenza del/i linguaggio/i e tools/librerie
che andrai a usare (da approfondire questi ultimi magari in corso
d'opera) e contattare un mentor del progetto che propone l'attivita'.
Partire da zero - anche di sviluppo in genere - non e' secondo me
molto promettente. Il tempo non e' moltissimo e si rischia
di arenarsi alla svelta. Nello specifico mi pare fondamentale
conoscere o essere disposti ad approfondire sia le Qt che gli
inner di Qgis e R.
