I just tested on a couple of machines with Ubuntu 64 bit (one 11.04 and
the other 11.10) and when running nviz I get

operation)

On a 32 bit machine it works fine (same GRASS version as above 6.4.1-2 and
Ubuntu 11.10)

Comment:

This looks like system OpenGL issue. Reopen if NVIZ is the only OpenGL
application failing. In such case, please, attach the output of glxinfo.
