Locally applied, it helps and the " is "generated" as expected.
Only scrolling back and forth in the wxGUI cmd line history eats the "
up but that probably unrelated.

yes, that's unrelated, I remember I looked at it once, but I am not really
sure what was the problem...
The quotes issue is fixed in r58984 for GRASS 7 and backported
