GRASS PSC elections 2026 — Candidate Statement: Huidae Cho

Dear GRASS Community,

Thank you for the nomination. I have been observing how GRASS has grown and evolved as a geospatial computing engine since 2000, and it has been a privilege to be part of this great open-source community for more than two decades.

My contributions span hydrologic modeling, internationalization, and portability. Recently, I have worked on cross-platform support through native Windows migration and conda packaging, making GRASS easier to install and use across three major platforms: Windows, Linux, and macOS.

If elected to the PSC, I would AIM to make the project more successful through:

  • Accessibility: Making GRASS easier to install and use, particularly for users without administrator rights on Windows (e.g., through conda),
  • International support: Improving multilingual infrastructure (e.g., in lib/gis/aprintf.c), and
  • Modernization: Advancing parallel computing, computational performance, and software architecture to support increasingly demanding geospatial applications (e.g., through OpenMP support)

I bring over two decades of experience and a commitment to keeping GRASS capable, accessible, and sustainable.

Thank you for your support!

Best regards,
Huidae
