Hi All,

I am new to grass and was wondering if it is posible to build a street directory or driving direction service for australia. If it is possible, just wondering how to actually go about doing this. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I suggest you ask on the gpsdrive mailing list. There has been some work
done there on .au street maps.

.. getting your hands on the data is the hard part ..

Hi,

There are some free Australia road maps for Gramin devices at
http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/catalogue.php, in a so-called Polish
format.

You can translate them into shp using
http://www.msh-tools.com/Ptxt2shp.html (reported on QGIS user list as
working with wine on Linux).

The Polish format specs:
