[GRASS-user] Where to find geospatial data for Argentina

With no need for geospatial data outside the US until now I've no idea
where to start looking and ask for ideas from the community.

Specifically, I am interested in data for San Juan Province, Argentina.
DEM, hydrography, transportation, land use/land cover, cities/towns,
satellite imagery, and whatever else might be available would be really
helpful.

Thanks in advance,

Rich

I'll let our specialists from Argentina answer this with more competence, but here are some links for global data that might be useful:

DEM,

30m SRTM (via glovis or earthexplorer web sites)

hydrography, transportation,

land use/land cover,

http://www.globeland30.org/

cities/towns,

http://www.geonames.org/

satellite imagery,

What kind of resolution ?

Good freely available data are Landsat (30m) and Sentinel (10-30m)

Moritz,

Thanks very much for the pointers. They're a very good start.

Much appreciated,

Rich

Hi Rich,

This is the official “National Geographic Institute” of Argentina website where you can find some of the data you were asking for (not sure if the scale is useful for your special case):

  • cities, transportation, hydrography, etc

http://www.ign.gob.ar/NuestrasActividades/InformacionGeoespacial/CapasSIG

I haven’t used these data for a while, but in case you need more details, you can suscribe and write to this mailing list: argentina@lists.osgeo.org

Vero

Vero,

Thank you very much. I'm sure that this will allow me to obtain all the
data we need.

Best regards,

Rich
