I need to know what the "id" argument for v.net.path is used for. There is no documentation I could find on this.

Where did you see this parameter?

v.net.path [-gs] input=name output=name [type=name[,name,...]]
   [alayer=value] [nlayer=value] [afcolumn=name] [abcolumn=name]
   [ncolumn=name] [dmax=value]
