[GRASSLIST:8850] Open source equivalent to ERDAS Imagine?

Hi Folks,

I was wondering if anyone knew of an Open Source alternative to ERDAS Imagine, like GRASS is with ARCGIS?

Kurt

Hello Kurt,

well I use GRASS for nearly everything I previously did with ERDAS imagine
or/and ArcInfo. GRASS is a very powerful raster manipulation program. Do you
have any specific tasks in mind?

regards, Martin

Unlike, ArcGIS, GRASS has the ability to replicate many of the functions of
Imagine--given its image-processing abilities integrated with GIS functions.
What is it you would like to do?

I looked at the book this morning. I should have looked there first. It's all there. Thanks every one.

hi all,
i've never used GRASS as an ArcGIS equivalent ...
rather use it to image and raster processing ...
and i still don't know very well the GRASS vector and
database conections capabilities ...
i use GRASS in a "old fashioned" way

I'm not sure that this will answer your question but FWTools provides a wide
range of support for a number of raster formats (+rw edras, geotiff, arc grid
etc..)and its all open source (GDAL)
