Here is proposal discussed in recent PSC meetings:

GSIP 243 - GeoServer Membership Program
Establish GeoServer Membership Program to recognizes organizations that support the project financially and in-kind.

This proposal covers the approach, rather than the exact wording. Levels set in accordance with QGIS membership program. I recommend we make the change prior to foss4g to be announced in “State of Presentations”. If luck holds it can be highlighted alongside OSGeo change of a similar nature.

Okay well this did not attract any response. OSGeo will be proceeding with a membership program - if folks have other ideas on sustainability I am open to them.
