INTERGEO premieres -- Open Source Park

"The launch of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) at the start of this year and the Open Source Park, which is being staged for the first time at INTERGEO 2006, reflect the importance of free software in the GIS sector, both in Germany and elsewhere," says Arnulf Christl, one of OSGeo’s nine directors. Projects from the international and German-speaking Free and Open Source Software community will be showcased in Hall C3 on a special area covering 400m2. Service providers from throughout the Free and Open Source Software sectors will be presenting their solutions. Each day, a series of presentations will be held on well-known open source software packages such as UMN MapServer, Mapbender, PostGIS or Geotools. The focus is on new applications, security mechanisms and the OSGeo Foundation. The speakers are suppliers and users of FOSSGIS software and report on their motivation for using open source software and their experiences with it.
