Introduction: First-year student and new contributor to GeoHealthCheck

Hi everyone,

My name is Prince, and I’m a first-year undergraduate student in Computer Science.

I recently started contributing to OSGeo projects and have opened my first pull request to GeoHealthCheck while exploring the codebase and learning how contributions work.

At the moment, I’m focusing on understanding the project structure, following discussions, and contributing through small improvements and bug fixes as I learn.

My goal is to learn open-source development properly, contribute consistently, and gradually take on more complex tasks over time.

Update: Since my initial post, I’ve had two PRs merged — GeoHealthCheck #500 and pygeoapi #2219. I’ve also submitted a GSoC 2026 proposal for istSOS Idea 2 (User Management and RBAC for the web administration interface). I’ve been studying the existing auth mechanisms in the codebase and am currently setting up the local Docker dev environment to start contributing. Looking forward to engaging more with the istSOS community !
