To get rid of the box do an UNGROUP, sometinmes you need to do it to or three times.
Then select the box and delete it.

OK, thanks. I can get this to work sort of, except I'm importing some
vector map overlays also, and I'm having trouble deleting the box without
deleting some of the vectors also.
