Name: Hi I’m Kaushik Raja
Tell us about yourself: I’m a sophomore at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) studying CS + Crop Sciences. My background involves optimizing software performance and analyzing agricultural data. I completed a technical internship at Roku, where I focused on performance profiling, identifying inefficient data-parsing loops, and diagnosing memory leaks. At UIUC, my current research involves processing multispectral satellite imagery to analyze crop performance. While I use GIS-related software pretty often for raster data analysis in my research, I am new to the OSGeo developer community and eager to contribute.
Any OSGeo projects and communities you are involved in:
I am currently looking to get started with the GRASS GIS community. Since I work with multispectral satellite imagery in my research, I’m interested in how GRASS processes large raster datasets. I’m specifically interested in how to make those operations more efficient using high-performance computing.
What do you want to learn / contribute?
I am interested in becoming a Google Summer of Code 2026 participant, specifically focusing on the Parallelization of existing tools in GRASS GIS. I hope to apply my profiling and optimization experience to modules like r.proj or r.viewshed using OpenMP. I want to learn more about the internal architecture of open-source geospatial engines and contribute to making these tools faster for researchers in the agricultural sector.
Do you need an OSGeo account?
Yes, I would like an account for the following services:
- Report a bug about: osgeo, postgis, osgeo4w
- Edit wiki.osgeo.org
- Translate a project on Weblate weblate.osgeo.org
- Become a google summer of code participant
- I’d like my project to become a community project of OSGeo
