Now with the nwe webside you can publish news on osgeo.org without getting the news team involved.
Problem: if you create a news item at the new webside no tweet and announce-mail will be send and no review.
Our previous workflow was easy, "write to this address and we take
care" (and control issues, etc.).
Here comes a suggestion by the news team:
1. Restrict the ability to
publish news items on the website to the receivers of this address
(news_item@osgeo.org - Frank W, Jorge Sans, Astrid Emde) so we can continue with the current workflow.
Maybe contributors can create the content, and then pass the draft to
us for final publish (and then we can forward also to announce).
What do you think?
Is it a question to discuss with the board or the marketing committee?

I created a Foundation News (this is what you are talking about,
right?) because I tried to create a Community thing but style was
broken and the text was of the same color as the background. So it
couldn't be read. But you are right, I skipped the workflow and I
should have done it.

announce list and twitter and news item on webside.

The community news pulls from OSGeo planet, republishes other blogs. When setting up the website, and recent roles, we were not aware of the above news publishing workflow. I thought news publishing was part of the osgeo website committee and non functional. We may be able to come up with a technical solution for sending out a tweet when news posts are made.
We can of course set up a role to limit publishing to the set of people you describe, or perhaps have wordpress email you when a news post is published.
