[Marketing] Local Chapter T-Shirts web store

Hi all,

At Spanish Language LC we want to have t-shirts or other apparel to
present ourselves at events as cool OSGeoers.

In the past we produced some t-shirts thanks to a great design by one
of our members and with the small benefits of selling them we created
or purchased other marketing materials. The story behind those
t-shirts well deserves a beer or two.

Anyway, now we want to upload some new designs, as we have a LC
logo[2] to a cafepress-like website to let anyone to buy a t-shirt. We
won't increase the base price of the t-shirt as we don't want to have
to deal with money until we decide how to do it.

Is there any problem about setting up a web-store to sell OSGeo
Spanish LC marketing materials?

I'm asking here before doing nothing, and on behalf of the OSGeo-ES
board of directors to avoid any future misunderstanding or conflict.

Warm regards and happy new year to everyone.
Jorge

Hi Jorge,
I love the design idea of "<osgeo lang="ES">".

I can't see there being any issue with printing and selling shirts with an OSGeo-Logo on it.
I see it as being the same principle as Open Source Software.
You can charge for the packaging and distributing of the software/shirt, but not for the software/logo design.

I do notice that the Spanish logo is different to the OSGeo logo. I'm personally in favour of allowing regions to create new logos from the base osgeo logo, but there has been some unresolved discussion around the use of variant logos.

Shouldn’t be any problem Jorge. Note that only a couple of us ever touch the cafepress.com store for OSGeo - if you wanted to add it there, that’d be fine too.

The previous t-shirt has the official logo.

Just for clarification, the OSGeo-ES logo is a variant of the official
logo with a background similar to the (shaving bowl) helmet of Don
Quijote[1], as he is a very well known icon of the Spanish Language.
This logo was selected from some proposals[2] some months ago.

Thanks for the offer, Tyler, we will try zazzle.com and let's see what
happens. I have some t-shirts from osgeo cafepress store so I'll be
able to compare them. We'll post our impressions and results here for
the records.

Happy new year!!

Curious, how did things go with zazzle?
