[Marketing] marketing budget 2019

Wanted to start a thread on marketing plans / budget for 2019.

I think there is no end of good ideas, and lots of value for osgeo foundation to take on in an outreach capacity.

That said it felt like we had more ideas than hands in 2018, perhaps we should go with an initial focus on recruiting particpants to the marketing committee.

In the absence of any guidance from the committee should we make the same request as last year? Which was for 21,500?

Hey folks,

I am sorry I have not had time to help get another meeting together to discuss the marketing budget.

Jody has been great about keepings tabs on this and as a member of this committee I appreciate it greately.

So, here are my 2cents:

Based on the two meetings I was in on last year I think there was a sense that we would continue to support the current tasks (website, conference materials, etc.) and that the committee would like to pull together a code sprint around building updated marketing material.

Here is my proposed budget, please feel free to give any feedback on this, it’s just a proposal to keep the ball rolling and make sure we have some funds this year if we need them as a committee (items are mostly from last years budget):

Proposed Budget 2019
estimated cost item
$5,000 Graphics support for updates to website and collatoral
$300 OSGeo FOSS4G 2019 New banners and table cloths
$200 OSGeo FOSS4G2019 SWAG (stickers, postcards etc)
$200 OSGeo FOSS4G Europe collateral stickers flyer cloth posters
$200 OSGeo FOSS4G NA collateral stickers flyer cloth posters
$200 FOSS4G Asia collateral stickers flyer cloth posters
$4,500 OSGeo LIVE USB sticks FOSS4 2018 (600 pcs)
$7,000 Brochures and project sheets for various FOSS4G’s 2018
$5,000 Marketing Sprint Event

$22,600 Total

Sounds good, would double check with OSGeoLive if they want responsibility for delivery to events? Since it is a tricky thing to get done (I did not like seeing attendees at foss4g stuck making sticks during the event).

Thanks for picking this up ahead of Monday’s board meeting

Astrid,

As you are on both committees can you please ping them about this.

We (the Irish OSGeo Chapter) were just talking about the USB Sticks for OSGeo Live during our meeting yesterday. We’ll be having our annual event in April - around 100 people - and we’d be interested in seeing if there was a global print run of USB sticks.

Hi all

Apologies also for lack of contribution here.

I suggest a line item for OSGeo Oceania also - we got a pile of stickers this year but they were very, very popular.

$200 OSGeo FOSS4G NA collateral stickers flyer cloth posters
$200 FOSS4G Asia collateral stickers flyer cloth posters
$200 FOSS4G SotM Oceania collateral stickers flyer cloth posters

Cheers

Adam

This all looks great! Glad to see so much happening, next step would be to take this to a wiki page or add to the draft budget.

We may wish to provide a bit of a summary rather than break things down into hundred dollar amounts?

If I can add something to the list … the “maps” on the website.

We cut scope in 2017 because we figured our community would help (and we hired web designers not web mappers). Well our community did not help … probably assuming it is ‘easy’ and someone else will do it.

Can we put aside … say 5000 to integrate the maps:

I am going to say “integrate” rather than “fix”, we could also ask that are cartography be followed?

I have taken your email to the wiki for revision: https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Marketing_Committee_Budget_2019
