[Marketing] Marketing Digest, Vol 95, Issue 20

Jody et al,

Table cloth And stickers (!!!) And Live sticks with logo (those go fast in the booth) could be printed last minute (count on 5 working days in asvance) last minute locally. Old one as plan B on premises.
Deadline May could give extra impetus to the contract signature.
Do not know txts of flyers by heart, but reprint Old txts with new logo should be posssible for now.

Back drop of booth perhaps with large new logo stickers and rollup banners (also 5 working days. A scramble but doable.

So GetInteractive should work first on logo!
If I ask nicely I could ask them to start working on it right now....

Kind regards,
Marc Vloemans

I think if we ask nice Sara could do this, and perhaps bring stuff to
FOSS4G for reuse.

Do we know where current booth is? Michael Smith has a table cloth banner
that could be mailed if new branding is not ready yet.

Hi Eli, Jody, Jeff,

@Eli;
That will be part of the rebrand process as planned. Risk to be managed: to have the feedback while keeping the required pace. It will be a right call to arrive end of April with a revamped logo.

@Jody;
As I have understood Jeff will manage the agency in the project, with me in the wings as back up (I am 'around the corner'). I am indeed aware that we have to build a long term relationship; that's why I am and have been both pleasant and strict.
Because I have worked in the past with GetInteractive, I hope and steer that the relationship with them will be with more of the Marketing Committee (others in OSGeo ?) than just me. Thus providing transparency and continuity in the longer term.

@Jeff;
Please give your expectations if/where/when you wish to employ me, also based upon your own agenda for the near future.

Kind regards,
Marc Vloemans

Do not know txts of flyers by heart, but reprint Old txts with new logo should be posssible for now.

Back drop of booth perhaps with large new logo stickers and rollup banners (also 5 working days. A scramble but doable.

So GetInteractive should work first on logo!
If I ask nicely I could ask them to start working on it right now....

Changing the OSGeo logo might go more smoothly with some larger
community buy in. Maybe that's already been done.

If I ask nicely I could ask them to start working on it right now…

Kind regards,
Marc Vloemans

I think if we ask nice Sara could do this, and perhaps bring stuff to
FOSS4G for reuse.

Do we know where current booth is? Michael Smith has a table cloth banner
that could be mailed if new branding is not ready yet.

Please be aware that printing banners, table runner, flyers and other
collateral should best be done locally. But that would mean someone local
to take care of that.

I would like to make the following motion:

“Accept OSCON Austin’s offer of an exhibitor pass (May 10 & 11) and
approve exhibition pack / marketing collateral”

Because of the dates May 10 & 11th we will need to check with the
rebranding schedule to determine when to print.

We are a new marketing committee and you are doing something new.

Thoughts:

  • If you want something official make an email motion and we can vote
    on it
  • We can ask Sara is there is a local OSGeo chapter we can send
    marketing
    collateral to
  • Sara seems keen (and I can work with Boundless management so she is
    available)
  • I can bring it up at the next LocationTech steering committee meeting
    (with respect to Thea’s availability)

aside: OSGeo is a not-for-profit (as is the eclipse foundation)

Jody,

agreed on all your suggestions. Can you please help me figure out the
best
next steps? Does someone on the Markting committee need to sign off on
this
stuff? I am not sure what the protocol is exactly. We will need to get
OSGeo collateral there somehow.

Great hustle Guido. Both the individuals named would be great
representatives and I like the idea of paying less for travel.

Both would need to ask their employers so it would be kind to ask with
enough time for them to get approval.

Hey marketing folks,

As stated in a prior email, in my attempts to promote FOSS4G in the
larger
Open Source Community, I applied for a OSCON non-profit exhibitor spot.
I
applied on behlaf of OSGeo, because FOSS4G is a part of the OSGeo
family,
but not really an organization in itself.

Good news, OSCON Austin <https://conferences.oreilly.com/oscon/oscon-tx

have chosen OSGeo to take a spot as a non-profit exhibitor. So we get a
table, 2 seats, and 1 badge.

While I would love to attend on behalf of OSGeo, I think that it would
make more sense to have some local folks take part in this. In my mind I
would love to talk Sara Safavi into this if she is available. Also, if
possible we might be able to get Thea from LocationTech, who is
local-ish,
to attend and then we could also share the potential outreach to the
larger
community? To be clear, I am sharing my thoughts, these folks have not
been
notified of my idea.

Please let me know what you think and if needed, could we meet to
discuss
this week?

Also, to be clear, I am still trying to get a spot at the AAG in Boston
<http://www.aag.org/cs/calendar_of_events/aag_annual_meetings> (which I
will be able to attend without issue) and I am also thinking about
talking
to the folks at Red Hat Summit Boston
<https://www.redhat.com/en/summit/2017> as well.

Thank you for your guidance,

Guido

p.s. here is a listing of the events with their dates in order:

4/5-4/9 AAG, Boston
5/2-5/4 Red Hat Summit, Boston
5/10-5/11 OSCON, Austin

p.s.s. The AAG option I speak of is now something I am talking to Jody,
Boundless, and LocationTech about because there is no free pass

Hi Marc:

···

@Jody;
As I have understood Jeff will manage the agency in the project, with me in the wings as back up (I am ‘around the corner’). I am indeed aware that we have to build a long term relationship; that’s why I am and have been both pleasant and strict.
Because I have worked in the past with GetInteractive, I hope and steer that the relationship with them will be with more of the Marketing Committee (others in OSGeo ?) than just me. Thus providing transparency and continuity in the longer term.

Lol - this ‘digest’ title caught me out, that was supposed to be a quick private reply from my phone :stuck_out_tongue:

Let me check the schedule now, since I did not want to bother having a discussion if the plan already matched the OSCon timeline.

Checking now:

  • By May 12th: Feedback from OSGeo team on Mock ups, Information Architecture and
    Branding
  • By June 9th: Finalization of Branding and IA

So indeed we are looking at a schedule change; good thing we have not signed contract yet.

It occurred to me that the event may be a good place to evaluate how the rebrand is going, and engage the community in person.

We can use whatever is together in time there, show it to people alongside some of the older stuff, and get very quick feedback from the community. If all we have are logo drafts, we can show those, if we have more substantive material ready instead, great!

Also let’s us avoid the immediately difficult position for the vendor (and mild customer from hell move) of “Yeah, we like your thing… but here, we’re going to totally change our timeline right before we sign. We cool?”
