Hi,
In my opinion, you should not wait for the board to assign goals. We
are a self-constructing community, not a dictatorship ![ ](/images/emoji/twitter/slight_smile.png?v=12)
All this suggestions are interesting and needed: make sure the website
has good content, OSGeo visibility on events, make sure the current
content doesn't get outdated,... And probably there are much more
related to "marketing" we can do! For example, the social network
accounts (twitter, facebook,...) they can have much more content!
Written here or redirecting content from our community. I think that's
part of the marketing for OSGeo: make sure our work is visible.
One of the things we can work on this committee is do some marketing
for each chapter and project we have. Make sure the community knows
what is going on on each team so people can join forces.
Just my two cents.

Something that may be worthwhile is the marketing committee as a whole
reaching out to the community and the board to identify more concrete steps
for the committee to take. Is that working to generate content for the site?
Some specific advocacy idea that we don’t even know yet?
I think a big part of the lethargy is a lack of... mission, for lack of a
better word. Working on sponsorship for events is absolutely important work,
but it’s not all that engaging by itself... most of the time seems to go
towards getting the expectations of whoever is requesting sponsorship to a
level the committee can deliver on. Ultimately, it’s politely saying “I
don’t think we can help with that” to people who want to do things that we’d
love to see them do.
How would everyone feel about taking a week to examine what we could
actually accomplish, do some of that outreach, then send out that request
for a new chair again and see if it goes anywhere.

Hi Jody et al
Thank you and Astrid for picking up the thread, since my earlier mail for
new chair did not reap any results.
My thoughts on a way forward:
- the present committee has run its course, new blood needed or folding as
options
- a - prominently displayed - how2 download your exhibition pack/collateral
on home page (saves Q&A’s)
- things as supporting FOSS4G’s around the world.....too
ambitious....downscale the expectations in the community
My 2 cents.

Thank you for your leadership Marc, just catching up on email now after

I have not had much time to think about the marketing committee, think we
may of tired folks out after last year's big push.

Dear all,
We are looking for a new Chair person of our committee (as I am stepping
down).
Can I invite interested individuals within our list to step up to the
plate and make themselves known on this list, including a little blurb what
they want to achieve with the committee?
Deadline for application is 9 May 24.00 PM CET.
With more than one applicant, we will have a little voting exercise.
Otherwise the individual will become the Chair by default.
When no one applies I will hand over the issue to the Board for further
action.
Looking forward to a new person to take us into the near future.
Kind regards,
Marc Vloemans
