[Marketing] OSCon 2017 booth discussion

The subject line got tangled (please don’t subscribe via digest folks) so i am breaking this out into a seperate thread.

I have asked, both Sara and Thea are available but need to confirm with their employers before confirming. Thea will already be attending the event and asks that we extend the extra ticket to “another volunteer”. Do we know of anyone else in the area? Sara recommended Sasha Hart (but I have not asked for an introduction).

With respect to booth presence we have a couple of options, I do not think it is worth throwing the rebranding schedule around. We can always use it as a conversation opener at the event and solicit feedback.

I do not know much about OSCon, we should consider the audience before deciding what kind of story to tell.

Finally as part of sponsorship stuff I am reviewing what we list as benefits, so we may end up with some sponsor things to hand out in addition to our own. It will be a good experiment.

Philip Davis is an OSGeo advocate in Corpus Christi and would probably be interested in helping:

Can you please ask sara and potentially Thea nicely? I am working up against a deadline at the office and have not had time to come up for air.
I think this all needs to come together ASAP and fear missing another 24hr window.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give in this coordination effort.

I have staffed the OSCON booth many times in Portland, it is super fun!

The thing that all of the developers ask is : “where’s the free data, and how do I get addresses (they really want to know about free geocoding)”.

Now, these observances are based on staffing the booth for several years in the 2006 to 2013 era…

Some years Autodesk sponsored us (that was plush!), other years I just added on to the PSU open source presence (that was ghetto).

Cheers,
Percy

Hi David,

Guido recently got OSGeo accepted into the OSCon event in Austin - we had a deadline today to get the forms in (now done).

You have already helped, in that your email provides a bit more of an idea of what to expect.

It looks like we may have an additional ticket (if we can find another volunteer) - your name was mentioned as being experienced with these events. It is a bit of a hike for portland so I am not sure if you are interested.
