[Marketing] OSGeo at OSCON 2017 -- planning, action needed

Updates:

 • I’ve tapped two local area part-time volunteers to supplement Thea & I’s full-time booth shifts for OSCON week; the 2 staff passes will go to them. Any additional volunteers can use the free Expo Hall Plus passes (see other email thread).

 • I forwarded how-to-order-utility-hookup info to Jody. This will include power outlets & internet (if desired).

 • Still outstanding: info needed on available OSGeo materials, swag?, resources I could/should print locally, and anything else I should know about running an OSGeo booth…

I’m continuing to update https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/OSCON_2017_Booth as I get info.

Cheers all, and happy Monday.

Hi Astrid,

Thank you! I will send you my PO box in a separate email.

As for “how many”, I’m not sure how to answer – OSCON is a large international conference (~4000 attendees last year) and I don’t know what that translates into for booth traffic. This is my first time trying to help with something like this, so I will let someone with more experience make that judgement call.

Is there anything apart from stickers that OSGeo could send and/or provide guidance on? (i.e., https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Exhibition_Pack materials etc). I know we still have 4 weeks before this event, but thus far I have zero handouts, banners, signs, swag, etc and no idea what I should be doing to obtain those. Any help would be great!

Thanks,
Sara

You could print out some OSGeo flyer in A4 or poster:

Ask Guido Stein to send you some FOSS4G 2017 material

You could use the OSGeo Logo and print some Poster or produce a Roll-Up or banner

You last OSGeo Booth at FOSSGIS looked like this

You could print an OSGeo Live poster

You could print out some OSGeo flyer in A4 or poster:
https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/browser/marketing/flyer/osgeo/en

I made a new flyer last week for AAG: OSGeo Handout
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Xo1NJBlofY17sA8UspzWGkCbdQ9cmtsnTfqjo5l6aFQ/edit>

You may wish to print those instead?

Ok, great - thanks all for the links.

If I take these printables to a local print shop, what’s my budget limit, and how do you handle purchases/reimbursement?

You could print out some OSGeo flyer in A4 or poster:

I made a new flyer last week for AAG: OSGeo Handout

You may wish to print those instead?

Hi Jody,

nice. I like the new flyer

Hope it is ok, to give some feedback. I only had a quick look...

Sponsors
----------------
please check the sponsors of 2017.

Looks like there is an error in the list:
http://www.osgeo.org/content/sponsorship/sponsors.html

You thank the sponsors of 2017 and then you print Boundless logo which is not in the list of 2017.

It would be great to mention all the sponsors of 2017 - also bronze sponsors and skip the logos in my opinion. Or sprint the logos of the majpor sponsor.

OSGeo-Live
----------------
* Maybe you could use the whole logo https://github.com/OSGeo/OSGeoLive-doc/blob/master/images/banner.svg
* maybe you could change the first sentance (as OSGeo-live is so often DVD anymore)

instead of:
"OSGeo-Live is a bootable DVD, USB or Virtual Machine with pre-installed geospatial open source software, sample data, overviews and quickstarts."

better:
"OSGeo-Live is a GIS software collection. It can be used as Virtual Machine, USB or DVD and provides pre-installed geospatial open source software, sample data, overviews and quickstarts."

Skip the logos from ICA and ISPRS - use the space for OSGeo specific info
----------------
* add logos from OSGeo projects

More
----------
* Maybe you could mention the local chapters, global events, Sol Katz,

* image - maybe they look better with a dark frame,

We updated the flyer in 2016. Maybe you can take some information from here:

Quick feedback:

Astrid - Sara is a volunteer that was roped into this. She has been very clear about her availability. She was not really asking about what material to print, she was asking you to print the material and send it to her. I have asked in the board meeting, Michael is able to make the order directly using the OSGeo credit card you can round up what needs to be printed.

Handout feedback, will take to a seperate email.
