[Marketing] OSGeo slide in the OSGeo-Live presentation

Marketing committee,

With the OSGeo rebranding, the slide we have in the OSGeo-Live presentation describing the OSGeo Foundation is looking dated. If we had 20 to 30 secs to describe OSGeo now, how would we do it? (That is about how much time you get for this slide).

Jody, maybe you can point me to the current elevator spiel text for OSGeo.

The current slide is here:

(press "s" for slide text)

Slide:

Open Source Geospatial
Foundation (OSGeo)
Since 2006 A Non Profit Umbrella for:

GeoSpatial Free and Open Source Software
Education
Open Data

Speaker text:

OSGeo-Live derives its name from the Open Source GeoSpatial Foundation, or OSGeo for short.

The OSGeo Foundation was set up in 2006 as a non-profit umbrella organisation to support development and promotion of quality GeoSpatial Open Source Software and Open Data.

My best descrption is being used in the “about osgeo” section of recent press releases: http://www.osgeo.org/press/2017/AzaveaSponsorship

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation is not-for-profit organization to empower everyone with open source geospatial. The software foundation directly supports projects serving as an outreach and advocacy organization providing financial, organizational and legal support for the open source geospatial community. OSGeo works with our sponsors and partners to foster an open approach to software, standards, data and education.

I am learning a lot about the foundation during this exercise - I think the last sentence could list “open approach to software, standards, data, research and education”.

Jody,

I’ve provided revised wording to OSGeo-Live slide, derived from your text:

https://github.com/OSGeo/OSGeoLive-doc/pull/299

I’ve trimmed the text a bit, while hopefully keeping all the meaning. The text below is repeating itself a bit.

Cheers Cameron

No worries I shortened it for one of the hand outs and github.

note that Brian was very concerned that we use the right 501 status information above.
