[Marketing] Please add your OSGeo Advocate profile, and provide feedback

OSGeo marketing committee,

I've created a template and process to allow people to add their profiles as OSGeo Advocates.
Within the next week, by 19 June, could you all please try following the profile writing instructions, and add your own profiles.

I'd like to test the template against yourselves first and make sure it is easy to follow, and also to collect any feedback you might have, before we go to the rest of the OSGeo community.

Hi Cameron,

I've updated my user page[1] at the wiki with your template, improving
my description, updating tasks and so on. Apart from the template y
have:

- a link to OSM map with my coordinates on the location section.
- a section regarding my time zone
- the macro for the users map

So I think the profile looks better but I don't know if I should add
myself to the advocate list right now as I'm just a lurker on this
list. It would be an honour indeed.

Cheers!

Bien dicho Jorge,
same question here. I tweaked my profile page a bit to make it
shorter, like Jorge i?y regular profile also has a map, contact data,
etc. making the whole thing rather long. Once we have a dozen user
profiles the page will grow too big. Maybe after all it makes more
sense to only add the link to the user page? Otoh it is nice to have
the list together.

Whatever the outcome - this is a good start, thanks Cameron!

Best regards,
Arnulf

Seven,

Why don't we use a category on user page? We can get all advocate user in one
page like this one: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Category:Local_Chapters

Hey,
yes, that would also be an option (we should do this anyway, does not
hurt). But this will only give us a list of names and not the
individual profiles conveniently on one page. Plus it will be more
tedious to check when the profile was last updated and accordingly
downgrade into "lapsed". A bot could do this type of things but so far
it seems there are no MediaWiki gurus around who want to implement
*and* maintain whatever we come up with. Maybe for now we leave as is
and wait until the page size becomes inconvenient.

Cheers,
Arnulf

Jorge,
I've added your profile into the Advocates page.
Lets give the rest of the marketing committee a few more days to update their profiles.
We can then take a look at all profiles, then update our template with the best features from each.

Hi all,
I've carefully looked at what Arnulf did, thought it made sense and improved it a little bit to avoid the need to write things twice.

Basically he has (and I also had) two end points for his profile. What we can do is to have one limited profile and one full one including the map etc... That allows to have a small profile on the Advocates list and a longer one when the user clicks on the name of that person (see Arnulf's or mine).

I now:
- use the User:Ticheler page for the short description following the template
- Add a More background section and location in the Jeroen_Ticheler page. That page basically looks like this:

<!-- start here -->

{{User:Ticheler}}

====Additional background====
Jeroen has been promoting the use of international standards and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_and_Open_Source_Software Free and Open Source Software] for geographic data and information for over ten years now. Jeroen served on the OSGeo Board and is a Charter member since the early days of OSGeo. He participated in writing the United Nations SDI (UNSDI) Reference Architecture as Task group manager Interoperability in the United Nations Geographic Information Working Group [http://www.ungiwg.org/ UNGIWG]. He frequently participated in ISO TC211 and OGC meetings in the past.

<!-- end here -->

Cheers,
Jeroen

Yes I like your approach Jeroen, now my profile besides yours seems
too long, I'll move some things to "Jorge_Sanz" so the "User:Jsanz" is
less wordy.
