Venka, Bui Hong Son,

As you will note from below, OSGeo has been invited to present at the Asia Geospatial Forum.

As you are both from the region, I wonder whether you would be able to recommend a suitable person to present on behalf of OSGeo at this conference. Possibly yourself if you will be attending?

We have a valuable presentation which can be a basis for a presentation here:

followed by a panel discussion.

The model of an OSGeo Local Chapter drafting the program, activating
and QA'ing speakers works perfectly here. With the currently
emerging

role of

OSGeo ambassadors I can also imagine that some expenses could be>

reimbursed

by OSGeo - but this is still in the pipeline, so do not count on it yet.

My experience with events organized by Geospatial Media and>

Communications

have so far been excellent and the interest in continuing to

cooperate on

this end are mutual.

As I will be mostly offline for the better part of the next two
months I would appreciate if the marketing team could pick this up and forge on.

Side note:
Some time ago I sent a similar mail to this list regarding the>

planning of

the global event in Amsterdam but there was little reaction. I do

believe

that this is an important aspect of the work done through OSGeo and

would

really like to see it being taken up by a broader set of people. So
please do not shy away but be bold.

I also sent this to the Education list because it has an educative>

aspects,

albeit different to what universities typically do. The Edu list did
not pick it up at all which is why I fall back to the Marketing

Committee. If

you think this type of event support can be taken on by another

group> within

OSGeo please go ahead.

Best regards,
Arnulf

Greetings, Mr. Christl.

Hope end of the year treats you well.

We're organizing a Seminar on "Open Source Geospatial" as part of

our> agenda

in Malaysia Geospatial Forum next year. Although Open Source is not

yet a

favourite in our country, but I could say the awareness is gradually
increasing. As an effort to increase the profile of this Seminar, I

would

like to propose an endorsement from OSGeo. We will display OSGeo's>

logo on

our website and all promotional materials of the Forum.

Malaysia Geospatial Forum is scheduled on *6-7 March 2012 in Melaka*
(a State two-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur). If you happened to be in

the> region

around this time, it would be our pleasure to have you as speaker as
well.

I attached the Forum flyer for your reference. You may visit our
website www.malaysiageospatialforum.org
<http://www.malaysiageospatialforum.org>
for updated info.

Wish you a very merry season's greetings and happy new year!

Best regards,

Sarah

OSGeo board,
Is anyone aware of any guidelines regarding use of the OSGeo logo?
In particular, in relation to the request below to include OSGeo as a strategic partner at the Asia Geospatial Forum?
I'd guess that that the Marketing Committee Chair (myself) should probably be delegated to provide such approval. If there are no suggestions or objections, I will provide such approval within 48 hours.

Hi Cameron and all,

I am also likely to attend AGF2012 in Hanoi. Could present something related
to OSGeo technologies at the Open Source seminar being planned there.

Look forward to seeing Sanghee and other OSGeo related folks there.

Best

Sarah,
Can you please confirm that Sanghee may present at your forum. Then
coordinate with Sanghee around the details.

If it doesn't cost us or obligate us to anything than I don't see the
problem. If there was some obligation involved I think the board would
have to vote on it.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi,
I second the proposal and agree that Cameron can approve this request
without passing it through the board. We have built up an informal but
nonetheless very good contact with Geospatial Media over the past years.

OSGeo already appeared as Strategic Insititutional Partner [1] at the
Geospatial World Forum last week in Amsterdam, organized by Geospatial
Media. I approved appearing as strategic partner for that event
without passing it through the a board because it did not put any
obligations on us.

Being a strategic partner also opens up options, for example to
organize an event or block of presentations around Open Source
geospatial and promote OSGeo. But this will *not* be organized by
"OSGeo Global". Instead the nearest Local Chapter has to become
active. This is important. If you do not become active nothing will
happen.

In Amsterdam last week the OSGeo.nl Local Chapter [2] did this with
great success. There we actually managed to organize the whole Open
Source track, which makes sure that there are no half baked
presentations and improves the quality.

Just van den Broecke invited ten speakers for the Open Source seminar
which took place in a full room on Wednesday [3]. Willy Bakker
organized an OSGeo booth in the exhibition area where we distributed
Live DVDs and flyers (some of which do need an update, just as a side
note).

I also had a stint (self paid) at the last at Asia Geospatial Forum in
2011 where I gave an introduction to OSGeo [4]. After this event I was
invited (including travel reimbursement) to Seoul for a great Local
Chapter FOSS4G event there.

Things really only happen when the locals make them happen.

Best regards,
Arnulf
