[Marketing] Re: Subject: [General Info] NYS GIS Conference Presentation

Mickey,

I am forwarding your message to our marketing committee
who may be able to put you in contact with someone who
could present on open source software. I am also cc:ing Tim
Schaub who I presume is in the NYC area. Where will the
conference be in New York State?

Generally we can only pursue something like this if we find
a volunteer interested in taking it on.

Best regards,
Frank

My name is Mickey Dietrich and I am the GIS Specialist with the NYS Tug
Hill Commission. I currently serve on the NYS GIS Conference committee. We
are currently looking for some Open Source workshops. We are looking
for programs to fill the slot. One thing we thought about was showing the
top things you can do with ArcGIS and how you can do them with open source
software. I don't know if this is anything you would be interested in
participating at or if you know of someone who would probably be willing
to present in this area. We are open to suggestions and it doesn't have
to be limited to desktop applications. We are also going to be providing
a place for people to show off their apps at our App Garden we are going
to have. Plus, there will be a Technology Petting Zoo for people to be
able to try out different geospatial technology devices.

Thanks for any feedback.

Mickey,
We do have a 30 minute lightening presentation which covers the full stack of Geospatial Open Source Software in one set of slides and notes - which accompanies a very comprehensive "Live DVD" of ~ 50 Open Source GIS applications, http://live.osgeo.org.

The presentation is here:
https://svn.osgeo.org/osgeo/livedvd/promo/trunk/en/presentation/

If this presentation is of interest, I expect we should be find someone locally to present this.
You will likely also be interested to hand out the LiveDVDs to delegates at the conference.

What do you think?
