In the past it used to be mostly a geological congress, but now it is opening to other geo-sciences.
The Theme for the 2008 SGM is applied science, and I think that geomatic can play an important role!
For this propose, I set up a session on Geospatial.
I also aim to find with this event a certain number of people interested in forming an Swiss OSGeo local chapter.
For this reason, I'm going to present OSGeo and some applications executed with their projects.
I think it would be nice to have OSGeo support for this session, and with support I just intend a "spiritual" support, not monetary!
I'd like to have your permit to use OSGeo logo as one of the supporting foundation (others are Swiss geological Survey and Swiss Geodetic Commission) and maybe set-up a boot with promotional material (this last if possible).
My name is Massimilano Cannata, I worked extensively with the Italian OSGeo Local Chapter (leason officier), and Italian community. I would personally be responsible for the management of the OSGeo market image.
If you have any question, or suggestion to make it better, please don't hesitate to write me.
Thanks,
Massimiliano

+1 for each point you mentioned (and Venka highlighted). Promoting OSGeo in any scientific field should always be supported. So should any effort to form OSGeo local chapters.

Same from me. Since you offer to be the active "event owner" and make sure OSGeo is represented well, then it is +1 from me too. Please have a read of the general event management process too:

Maxi, good to have you there, this is a belated +1 to go ahead. Please ask whatever you need from this list. We have lots of information from people here who operated OSGeo booths, be it in France, Germany, at the FOSS4G, Intergeo or Asia.
There is a set of official info OSGeo sheets (brochures, flyers) for each project. Events like yours are a good deadline for updating themso that we get come regularity in the process. OSGeo can help promoting it by adding it to the event calendar and making press releases.
Please keep this list up to date for anything you need. Maybe you can join our semi-regular Marketing meeting which is usually announced in advance here and report any issues or ask questions.
Best regards, Arnulf.
