[Marketing] Where 2.0 2009

Hi all,

I'd like to see us take a strong run at next year's Where 2.0, and
convert some users into sponsors. Silly Valley is the home of lots of
OSS users, so lets make some contacts and suck a little money out of
them.

I've started an event page, and await your words:

No thoughts, concerns, etc?

I'd be willing to help with a booth, and check in with the CA Chapter to see what else we can do to help. Open to suggestions about who to approach for some sponsorship.

We should have a standard exhibit pack local in by March when I'm heading up some volunteers at the AAG. (Banners etc.)

Would there be any interest in sharing some booth space with Autodesk with your own branded area? We'll probably exhibit at Where next year.

Paul,
I agree where 2.0 is certainly a conference worth attending. And you frame the business case well. "Spend money marketing at Where 2.0 and expect sponsorship". Are you willing to hazard a guess at possible revenue gained from the conference?

I suggest you read the "Howto set up an OSGeo stand" wiki for ideas. (ah - wiki not written yet, gosh it would be great if someone wrote it).

Nathalie,
I'd like to hear a response from locals on this, but in Australia OSGeo and Autodesk have exhibited next to each other a number of times and it worked well for us.

We've had some great success in the past using or sharing a booth with Autodesk at Where 2.0 too.

I'd love to see a more coordinated run at Where 2.0 this year, especially considering the number of OSGeo members who are usually in attendance or speaking.

Tyler

I should have that page up tonight and will post the link when I do.

As promised in our last meeting, I've started an Exhibition Pack wiki.
http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Exhibition_Pack

Tyler, you mentioned that you had ideas on where to source material from. Are you able to provide costs for the items identified.

Next step:
* The marketing committee is to approve the items on the exhibition pack (and hopefully the costs if we have that available before the next meeting).

Natalie,

The answer, after too much time wasting by me, is "yes". I hope you
can still do this, I apologize for the delay.

Hi Paul,
Unfortunately, at this stage we no longer have plans to exhibit at Where this year. But I'll let you know if our plans change closer to the event.
Thanks,
Nathalie

Word is that a lot of 2009 shows are looking at fewer exhibitors and fewer attendees. "Regional" shows are possibly stronger because of this, though.
