Hi all,
I have several questions about GeoNetwork and INSPIRE catalogues, in particular with the handling of thesauri, that I couldn’t find conclusive information about online. Hopefully someone can shed more light on this surprisingly complex topic and point me in the right direction.
Currently evaluating GeoNetwork, with docker image version 4.2.8, there are apparently several thesauri or keywords missing when harvesting from the EMODnet INSPIRE catalogue, as indicated by warnings on the status page (see screenshot below).
There is only one thesaurus loaded by default in the docker image, and adding the GEMET - INSPIRE themes thesaurus (shown below) only fixed some of the warnings.
What are the implications of missing thesauri/keywords, besides the warnings and not being able to use them in the catalogue editor?
Is the functionality of the catalogue itself limited in any way when accessing a record that references a missing thesaurus?
What is the recommended workflow to add all thesauri that are referenced in a harvested catalogue, in particular INSPIRE catalogues?
Should I just add all INSPIRE thesauri from the registry available under “Add thesaurus”?
Documentation mentions a list of thesauri for INSPIRE metadata guidelines 2.0:
The first three are directly available for upload in GeoNetwork.
The others I cannot find in the registry, e.g. “Metadata codelist register → Protocols”.
Am I expected to download, convert and upload each of these manually?
How do I keep track of any remaining thesauri that are referenced in a harvested catalogue?
Is there any tool support or do I just have to browse through the index warnings?
The documentation linked above states “By default the type of thesaurus will be Theme but you can adapt it if needed.”
Is there an agreed-upon type for each of the listed INSPIRE thesauri, or is it abitrary?
The documentation also states “User can also use the well known GEMET thesaurus.”
What are the use cases and implications of GEMET in the context of INSPIRE catalogues?
Is one “better” than the other, or should I install both?
When uploading the INSPIRE theme register, it is listed as “GEMET - INSPIRE themes v1.0” (see screenshot 2).
Does this already contain the GEMET thesaurus, or just a part of it?
Thank you very much for your help and all your explanations.
