Hello GN Devs,
As event organizer, I invite the GeoNetwork developer community members to participate in the upcoming OGC Metadata Codesprint we are organizing under the GeoDCAT SWG. This event will be hybrid, with online and in-person options, and will take place on 18-19 November. The in-person portion will happen at the University of New South Wales. The OGC will support online attendance with tools such as GoTo Meeting and Discord.
I reach out to the GeoNetwork dev community as interested parties in this space who are at the forefront of implementing geospatial metadata solutions. And who I note holds a particular current interest in DCAT and OGC API Records implementations.
A pre-event webinar on Thursday, 24 October 2024, at 08:00-10:00 UTC, where we will review and discuss proposals and use cases. Please read and add to these as you wish at Issues · opengeospatial/GeoDCAT-SWG · GitHub
More details about this Codesprint are available at OGC Metadata Codesprint 2024 ‐ Sydney · opengeospatial/GeoDCAT-SWG Wiki · GitHub.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions.

Hi Byron,
Thanks for reaching out. I would be pleased to participate remotely to the sprint.
I’ve participated to many OGC Records code sprints along with Tom Kralidis and we bootstraped some good work together.
Also, me and my teammate at Camptocamp Olivia Guyot, feel very concerned with the metadata models, we tried to propose a pivot format in GeoNetwork to describe the metadata fields in a simpler way, and we’ve got inspired from DCAT and geoDCAT to do so. I am also part of a group in France which tries to define a standard for the metadata model for french geospatial data, but they are waiting for your group to produce something before moving forward.
So I looking forward to seeing this topic on the table.
See you soon.
Best.
Hi Florent,
Thank you for your contribution. We would enjoy it for you and Olivia to participate in the code sprint.
I would like to hear more about your ideas for a standard for the metadata model for French geospatial data. The concerns you raise are also ours as well. I believe all these standards have their place but fill different needs. As we shift these metadata around from one standard to another, we undoubtedly lose some information that is important to someone. The trick, as I see it, is to make these standards work together as best we can so the strengths of each can best be leveraged. The CDIF approach intrigues me in this regard.
Would you be willing to review the proposed topics for the code sprint and add to them if you feel inclined? The topics can be accessed at OGC Metadata Codesprint 2024 - Proposals and use cases · Issue #17 · opengeospatial/GeoDCAT-SWG · GitHub.
And please join us this Thursday at the Pre-event webinar. You can register for both here - OGC Metadata Code Sprint
