Frank, I think you have done the Right Thing. Our policy on this is
sort of given in paragraph 3 of this page:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Event_Owner#Types_of_Events.2C_Types_of_
Participation
More specifically:
* There are two kinds of conferences. Those that
OSGeo-the-Big-Foundation
wants to take a lead on, and those that
Some-OSGeo-Member-or-Local-Chapter
wishes to take a lead on.
* For the former, VisCom will somehow get involved and make things
happen
(often through a proxy agent, e.g. Arnulf). Examples are Where 2.0
or
OSCON.
* For the latter, VisCom will issue a Call-For-Volunteers, and then
"back away
slowly". VisCom will help out with getting collateral, etc, but
will not
actually do any "organizing" per se. Examples are that Hawaii thing
or this
Spain thing.
Therefore, in accordance with our Policy, I will put out a CFV for the
Girona meeting to the discuss list.

Subject: [VisCom] Open Source GIS Users Meeting in Girona
(Spain), march 2007
Folks,
I have taken the liberty to add this meeting to:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/Current_events#2007
There is a lot happening in Spain in the realm of open source gis, and
hopefully we can have at least some degree of OSGeo
involvement at this
3 day meeting. Is this wiki page the right place to put
conferences we
*might* like to participate in? I could find any other list
of prospective
conferences.
/me backs slowly away so as to avoid being assigned any degree of
responsibility.
Best regards,
