Comment (by robe):
$200/USD is very pricey. Usually when something like that is offered it's
usually an auction price
or broker fee and not guaranteed you'd get it. I looked at whois and it
has geowebcache.org expired on 12/20/2023
Here is what it says about expired domains on namecheap site:
https://www.namecheap.com/guru-guides/find-and-buy-expired-domains-top-5
-marketplaces-dp/
So the key take away from that is that since geowebcache.org expired in
12/20/2023, we are currently in the
grace period, allowing the current owner to purchase it back. We are on
day 28, so 2 more days of grace period.
If we wait 45 days after that, namecheap has to release it to the public
and then we should be able to purchase it on pairdomains.com
assuming no one has purchased it via auction.
{{{
Auctions: third parties gather ‘round
Expiring domains go through multiple stages before they’re eventually
deleted and re-released for public registration. Unless they’re put up for
auction, that is.
Grace Period (around 30 days) — renewal phase allowing the current
owner to re-register their domain.
Redemption Period (around 40 days) — owner can still renew but at a
higher price. The domain may also be put up for auction.
Pending Delete Period (5 days) — domain hasn’t been re-registered or
auctioned and is rereleased for public registration.
During the redemption period, the registrar can enter the domain into an
auction, a brilliant opportunity for those looking to buy aged domains.
Sales only finalize if the domain isn’t re-registered before the
redemption period is finished.
If it isn’t recovered, auctioned off, or kept by the registrar for their
own purposes, it will enter the Pending Delete phase. After five calendar
days, it’s then placed in the general market for people to register like
new.
}}}
So I think our best bet is to try to convince planet to repurchase cause
they have first dibs for the next 70 days and the pricing should be
relatively inexpensive if they act in 2 more days .
Fail that, we wait for the Pending Delete period to be over and grab it as
soon as we can. I've marked my calendar to check in another on March 1st
2024. We should be able to purchase it on March 4th, 2024 at reasonable
prices if Planet doesn't take action.
