OSGeo Community created on Zenodo

Hi all,

An entry for an OSGeo Community has been created in Zenodo. OSGeo Projects can submit their Zenodo record to the OSGeo Community after which a reviewer will accept them.

The record can be found here: Search OSGeo

Kind regards,
Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,

I’d like to submit the GRASS GIS community:
https://zenodo.org/communities/grass/

but have no idea how to do so
Do you have a hint?

Best
Markus

Hi all,
by the way, this applies to all 33 OSGeo Projects which currently use Zenodo. Overview here: DOI - OSGeo

Best,
Peter

Hi Markus,
Reading your other communication with Zenodo support, I assume you have found a solution if they are able to help out, right?
Cheers,
Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,

Well, so far no solution (and it is Peter communicating with the Zenodo support) - I don’t know if Peter opened a ticket there also for the GRASS GIS → OSGeo case?

The problem is that the first author is a virtual user… so the magic “Communities” button does not appear in any human-controlled account.

Best, Markus

Hi Markus,
Would it help when you (temporary) move yourself as first author, fix it and modify the order again? You have probably tried already.
Cheers,
Jeroen

Hi Jeroen,

Well, that would likely help but would AFAIK require a full GRASS GIS release… not sure if the other devs would agree to that

I am not sure if @Peter.Lowe already contacted the Zenodo support for this issue - that might be a less invasive way to solve the problem.

Best, Markus

Not sure about the new releases. You can modify each of the existing records also at a later stage and save them.

Hi both, Zenodo stated “The default behaviour is that any Zenodo account can submit records to the community.”. @Markus: Have you tried to submit the record from you individual account ? If this doesn’t work I don’t think that another software release (digital payload submission to Zenodo) would be required - this is a metadata/organsiational issue. Cheers, Peter

This only works if you are the author of the record. Here, I am not in this case (GRASS GIS).

… do they explain how to do that? The cogwheel is missing if you are not the author of a record.

Yes, I tried. But the first author is the virtual “GRASS Development Team” (taken from CITATION.cff) and not me…

Maybe we found a glitch?

I have asked the Zenodo helpdesk and will report back.

Hi all, the Zenodo helpdesk responded:
"A Zenodo record is always owned by one Zenodo user account.
In the case of a GitHub integration, it is owned by the user who enabled the integration.
There is no automatic linking between authors and Zenodo accounts.

Only the record owner can request for a record to be part of a community.
Note that once a record is part of a community, all the following versions of the record will automatically be included in the community, so this is only needed once.
"
This boils down to “who set up the orginal technical GitHub-Zenodo integration”. This must be a real person.

Concerning the GRASS GIS project, I darkly remember that @wenzeslaus has set this up (so he could issue the community request).

Would be great if @Vashek could fix this.
