Just out of curiosity, can too many active plug-ins cause the software to not respond and shut down? I was on the OSGeo4W and then was advised to use the Long Term Version 3.44 LTR because I kept having crashing issues and losing all my work that I would be working on. But I seem to still be having the same issues, and also having to redo my data because the older version was not compatible with some of my map data from when it was created in the OSGeo4W version. So I thought maybe I have too many active plug-ins, and that is where your advice and guidance would be most appreciated.

Not necessarily a amount of plugins but maybe a specifc plugin is causing it.
Start by disabling all plugins and see how it works. If it still crashes, try creating a new profile (settings > user profiles ,> new profile) that creates a clean environment.
