QGIS in Wayland

There’s a warning about a degraded experience when launching QGIS in a Wayland session, but has anyone noticed a difference? Mine seems to work fine. I haven’t done extensive testing over X11, but it seems to be okay.

Fedora 42.

Hi,

There are still a few GUI glitches indeed. The annoying one I can remember is that every undocked panel can’t be redocked.

There’s a workaround though, as you can launch qgis with X11 instead of Wayland by running env QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb qgis in the terminal.

You can also add a permanent second desktop entry for QGIS under X11 in your app launcher (Program set to qgis & Environment variable set to QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb). I usually have two QGIS desktop entries in my KDE launcher, one under Wayland and one under X11.

(NixOS user, but it doesn’t matter much here)

Shoot, you’re right. Not even closing QGIS and reopening makes the panel redock. Had to do your work-around.

This is a great work-around! This should be linked in the “Learn More” link that QGIS displays when launching with Wayland.

Sorry - I just saw this. I’m running QGIS nder wayland on fedora 42 and in general the glitches are very minimal. Panels Dock and that wasn’t happening earlier with the fedora 40 release or under Ubuntu with Wayland.

GRASS Exhibits the panel not docking behavior though.
