[Qgis-us-user] QGIS for Working Professionals

Hello!

I recently developed a QGIS course for a client based on several classes I’ve done in the past (Introduction to GIS Fundamentals and Intermediate GIS with QGIS and PostGIS). I call it QGIS for Working Professionals and it’s aimed at people with some knowledge of GIS and QGIS but who need a more stable foundation as well as more advanced skills.

I’m looking at making revisions to the course before I deliver it again and thought I’d ask the community here for constructive feedback and suggestions for improving the content. These materials are hosted online under a Creative Commons CC BY-SA 4.0 license and I plan to give credit to anyone making suggestions as a thank you for your help.

Thank you in advance for your time and please pardon the interruption to your Friday afternoon.

Overall looks good.

Some minor comments:

  • I couldn’t connect to the database but assume that’s just cause you only have it live during trainings.

  • The postgis website looks a little dated. The first one showing PostGIS 2.2 is already a dead branch.

  • All the books on the end are either not the latest versions or dated. I think many QGIS books especially on LocatePress have come along since you published this, so I’d suggest either augmenting or replacing with some of these - https://locatepress.com/

Thanks for those suggestions! The spatial database is used in the Intermediate class is only active when I’m running a class, though I’ve thought about having a pg_dump file for people to load their own. If there’s any other ideas people have found helpful for hosting this without having an RDS instance running constantly or maintaining my own remote server, I’m all ears.

I’ve added Github issues to update the images to the books, including getting the newest version of PostGIS in Action. Thank you for your feedback. I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to look over my materials and provide feedback.

Best,
