We're working on it... Or rather, we will be soon. There is
definitely a huge need for this, and I think David Blasby
should be starting in force in the next week or two I
believe. The plan is to do nice intros to WMS, WFS, Filter,
SLD, GML, WMC using examples from GeoServer. He's going to
enlist as many people as possible, so perhaps you could help
review and edit?

Right now all that exists is a WMS cookbook, see:
http://www.opengeospatial.org/resources/?page=cookbooks
Probably a year and a half ago I contributed to a WFS
cookbook, but they still haven't released it. But I think
our coming tutorials will be a lot better than anything out there.

The GeoConnections program has also put together some training materials
like this:
http://www.geoconnections.org/publications/training_manual/e/
and
http://www.geoconnections.org/publications/Technical_Manual/html_e/cgdiindex
.html

And then can follow the Mapbuilder tutorial:
http://mapbuilder.sourceforge.net/?q=node/52&PHPSESSID=febc903

The tutorial at that link is a little out of date (it's something I have to
update). For a more recent version use this one:
