I am reopening this as the the manner in which the addition was made
conflicts with the goals of the website.

OSGeo" action.
I have also reopened the website [No Donate button on home page · Issue #43 · OSGeo/osgeo · GitHub
content issue].
We need a good visual design for a donate button. If fundraising is to be
added to the home page it could be more kindly added by highlighting a
sponsor; and having buttons for sponsorship and donation. Then it would
tell the story of foss4g software being financially supported; and
providing an invitation to do so.
