RE: RE: [VisCom] RE: Site stats?

Andrew:

Still waiting on this. (I sent mail a week ago ago saying the private projects issue was not a problem.)

This request is now over a month old.

If you can’t satisy our request for some reason, please just say so directly – otherwise, give us the data.

Auke,

I was JUST thinking about this before I read this mail, I had asked Jeremy to pass me over the id/pwd of the osgeo wusage reports, wasn’t sure if we actually accomplished that (apparently we didn’t). Can you follow up and get Michael the id?

Michael, there is one security issue. CollabNet has the capability to have private projects, and activity in these projects appears in the logs. You may not want to freely share the ability to analyze the logs with the general public without first running it by Autodesk, since today they are paying for this private project capability.

Thanks,

Andrew

Michael,

I was running it by our ops manager to see what limitations, if any, we had in giving stats access. He said he didn’t see any (to your point) and told me its fine to share the id/pwd with the general community. I need to get that info from our stats guy and have him send it out to you. You should get it today.

Andrew-

I think this issue is still open, as I didn’t see a response to my question – perhaps I missed it?

No, actually by “all” I meant “everyone” – as an open organization, we generally try not to have restrictions on information.

Forgive my ignorance, as I have no web site admin sort of experience, but is there some articulable reason such information can be exported out, e.g. security? I know that other (public) sites do offer such services and reports.

Information like what files are being downloaded, who is referring over to our site, when traffic increases, what pages are most popular, etc, would help us be able to better understand the OSGeo community and their needs.

Thanks.

By “all” I assume you mean the board members? If so then absolutely,
board members and select committee chairs (who need the data
to measure
their results) should have access.

We just can’t allow anyone on the site to be able to access
the logs, we
have an SLA for our managed sites, can’t have everyone
tapping into the
back end.

I’ll get it out to you when I receive it, feel free to share it as you
feel necessary.

Any reason why we can’t all see this information? I don’t want it to
have to just go through me…

Works for me (sorry for my ignorance). Let me get the link

and pop it out to you.

We use wusage to analyze the logs. Normally we give
clients online
access to the reports, in this case its complex because of the
relationship between the foundation and Autodesk.

What is your affiliation with the foundation?

Thx,
Andrew

Andrew-

This is a good start – if you could post a monthly report,
that would
be helpful I’m sure to both WebCom and VisCom.

I see two clear spikes, the week of Mar 12th and July 30th.
I’d like to
claim these correspond to our press releases (Mar 6th and
July 19),
but…

Do you have more detailed information available, such as
hits per URL,
referrers, download counts, etc? (I’m thinking of something like
WebTrends, which my company uses)

Michael,

Here’s a picture of the site hits stats over time to
date. We can
upload this monthly and put it into one project’s docs/files
if that is
needed.

Cheers,
Andrew

Is there a way to see the site’s hit statistics (ideally
sorted over
time)?

Thanks –
