RE: [VisCom] Check these out..!

Nice...

I think the copy on the ad needs some attention. IMHO we have evolved
to be considerably different from what is being advertised.

I'm happy with these, though I wonder if we are stuck in a 'black background' rut?
I assume we'll have editable versions of these and that these are simply templates, so we shouldn't have to worry about the ad copy ??

Please consider making a version with lighter background for the ad.
Some printers requested us to use lighter background

This is the first I've heard of any problems with our occasional black
backgrounds. I'm reluctant to open up the color-scheme question again,
but has anyone else had any probs w/ the black pieces? (note I think
we're only using black for ads, shirts, and banners right now)

So it turns out that there's an issue with the ads and datasheets -- my
fault!

The contract calls for him to do "2 actual datasheets and 1 final ad".
I missed this completely -- I had just assumed he would give us just
templates for us to play with. He and I talked last week about this,
and he's willing to do a template, but warns us that this means one of
us will have to be handy with Adobe InDesign or Illustrator or whatever
he uses... He suggests instead we have him do the versions for each new
product as it comes out, noting that you really don't want to be
continually tweaking the adverts every time you do a show, just with
every major release or something (obviously this approach makes him more
money, but still...) I didn't ask for how much it'd cost.

I'd prefer to do both approaches (get the template for our own safety,
but just squirrel it away somewhere and use him a few times a year) --
but clearly that costs us money.

[Which leads us back to the budget discussion, which leads us to...
Arghhhhh.....]

Jason (and others):

The text currently used is:

Building The Future Is A Collaborative Process.

Open Source Geospatial Foundation, or OSGeo-a not-for-profit

organization is dedicated

to the collaborative development of open geospatial technologies and

data. As the leading

supporter of such technologies, we provide financial, organizational

and legal support to the

open source geospatial community. In addition, OSGeo acts as an

independent legal entity to

which community members can contribute code, funding and other

resources.

To find out more, visit www.osgeo.org

I think this might be taken straight from the Where 2.0 ad, but in any
case it matches pretty closely the first paragraph on our public "About
OSGeo" page, except we're missing the last sentence:

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation, or OSGeo, is a not-for-profit

organization whose mission

is to support and promote the collaborative development of open

geospatial technologies and data.

The foundation provides financial, organizational and legal support to

the broader open source

geospatial community. It also serves as an independent legal entity to

which community members

can contribute code, funding and other resources, secure in the

knowledge that their contributions

will be maintained for public benefit. OSGeo also serves as an

outreach and advocacy organization

for the open source geospatial community, and provides a common forum

and shared infrastructure

for improving cross-project collaboration.

I'm open to change, but not sure what to go to (aside from adding that
last sentence). Can you be specific as to what you think we should
add/modify/delete?

PS- I've no idea where "Building The Future Is A Collaborative Process"
came from, but I like it. Did JohnC add that himself, or did that come
from Tyler's Where 2.0 advert also?

Yes, it's from Where 2.0 adverts that Tina helped us with way back when...

Hi,
sorry to be consistent (or is it insistent or persisent...). We need this
to be available in an editable open format, this does not need to be
discussed either. We will not be able to pay for 20 different languages
and adapt to recent changes every other day, this will not work.

He suggests instead we have him do the versions for each new

Maybe you can do that for what we identify is required at an international
level, yearly updated mega professional layout... but I need to have a
usable open template that can be filled with other language content at an
hours notice with no additional cost.

Best regards,
Arnulf.
