[SAC] [Board] Action: Aex talk to jeffrey johnson and provide feedback by the end of the weekend on what is needed to host the website

I've split it into 2 parts in my head.

1. migrate the current development site somewhere to keep the dev going
2. figure out the long term hosting solution for deployment

Step 2 does not have to be 100% solved by the end of the month, unlike
Step 1. We just want it to happen soonish so the new site can be rolled out.

Thanks,
Alex

I think the decision point was around use of cloud hosting as an
alternative to setting up our own wordpress / database / backups.

No decision yet. Unless we come up with something better just use the
beta.osgeo.org that Jeff suggested. We can always change it later.

Can you send me the meeting details, time, method, etc?

Thanks,
Alex

I have not heard any decisions. Happy to do whatever SAC thinks is
best here. Alex has the template to stand it up.

Alex and Jeffrey managed to catch up during the conference, although
tickets are recorded in the SAC issue tracker there was some

clarification

sought on exactly what wordpress plugins needed to be installed (I

know the

vendor has provided a list).

I can see some discussion on the SAC email list, but I am hoping Alex

will

report back to confirm SAC has the capacity to host the website, or the
capacity to select a cloud hosting provider.

The risk we are looking at here is the ability to host the website "in
time" before the contract with Get Interactive is completed. This has
escalated up to the board level due to need to balance contracts and
priorities.

+1 on this plan. Lets get beta.osgeo.org (or something else, it doesnt
matter) up on an osgeo server and we can work on 2) longer term.

That is a sensible breakdown.

For Step 2 what are we looking at for resource requirements:

2a) what contributor commitment do we need to secure to host ourselves (I liked your wording of SAC contributor rather than volunteer)
2b) do we have a price range on monthly hosting options?
