The 2016 one is still unspent, btw, due to lack of decision upon
the second sysadmin contract (which I proposed as a agenda point
for a never made september meeting: https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/SAC:Sep2016)
I'll make a motion for that part.
I think 2017 could benefit from a further raise in budget,
starting from 15K. What do you think ?

In addition: We should check why the trac machine is so slow lately.
Probably some services on that machine need to me migrated to a
different one?
That's exactly why I'm talking about "setup more VMs", the new services
on tracsvn machine are probably just git & gogs. Next step for that
would be moving the couple to a different machine (possibly to do
that once gogs gets upgraded to gitea [1])
I think also you/we could consider something like a "SAC sprint", to tackle some of the tougher issues together. Sometimes meeting face-to-face helps get through these issues, even if just throwing ideas back and forth.
Maybe this is a silly idea, but I thought I'd share it anyway

Makes me think of another silly idea. Why not make the System Admin tasks into it’s own project like the OSGeo LiveDVD. Could incorporate the idea of regular get togethers over the year for solving the hard stuff, could use OSGeo funds to seed the start at the very least. It instantly adds some organizational structure by being a project, etc. Oooh, I wonder how many committees this might work for . . . .
Maybe this is a silly idea, but I thought I’d share it anyway :c)

1. Finish retiring OSGeo4: which means moving or replacing QGIS and
Adhoc Vms.
2. Buy a replacement for OSGeo3: which allows for setting up more "VMs"
or other containers. We spent ~$6000 on OSGeo6
2a. Trac should be moved to wsgi based hosting to improve performance.
Other servers where apache gets overloaded should be looked at and
considered for migration to NGINX when possible (if we have someone who
can performance tweak it)
I agree a budget between $10-15,000 to allow for more service contracts.
Do people have time for a meeting before the holidays?
Doubling back to this thread after recent budget discussion/questions. The board set a goal of redoing the website presence in 2017 (RFQ,content migration, etc…). It was unclear if the 15K request from SAC took this into account or not?
Although we reached out to Alex Mandel it was unclear if the 15K request from SAC took this initiative into account?
Since it was unclear we have penciled in 8K for SAC as part of budget/fundraising target. The draft budget https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/OSGeo_Budget_2017 has the high level outline.
Should fund raising target be met by end of January go/no-go the final budget for SAC would be 23k. It would be great if a member of SAC could be involved in the EOI / RFQ process (and present for the go/no-go decision).
