[SAC] Excessive or fatal bounces from hotmail accounts

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Folks,
as list admin I am seeing a flurry of

    Action: Subscription disabled.
    Reason: Excessive or fatal bounces.

They all appear to be hotmail accounts. Is anybody else seeing this too?
Is this systemic? Do we have to do something about this?

Cheers,
Arnulf

I suspect this is systemic, one of my customers failed to send EMail to
Hotmail accounts for more than two weeks and I yet failed to find out
what's wrong ....

Cheers,
  Martin.

We just got another 15 excessive bounces and deactivations for hotmail
accounts. Not nice.

I suggest to notify those accounts and let them know they have been
unsubscribed. Or simply not bother? Ideas?

Cheers,
Arnulf

Hi,

please note that contemporarily hundreds of spam accounts are being
registered in our mediawikis. Saw this also elsewhere. The point is
that most of the confirmation emails go to hotmail and outlook.com
accounts (on the GRASS wiki Martin Landa and me get a cc email of each
of them, local hack).

I guess that they cracked hundreds of the email accounts.

Hi Markus,
thanks for this new bit of information. For now I will do nothing and
wait how things evolve.

Frank,
I temporarily activated "Should administrator get notices of
subscribes and unsubscribes? = Yes" in the hope that I can see a
correlation of new accounts which will after some time bounce. I'll
turn it off in a week if it does not render useful information. Sorry
for the extra load of mails.

Cheers,
Arnulf
