[SAC] Final sign-off items

Jeffrey,

Did you ever send me that document about your general setup steps.

I apologize if you did and I missed it. Doesn’t have to be crazy

Just should cover things like

  1. The version wordpress you started off with

  2. How to enable / disable the filter (though I think I see that from wordpress admin) so probably not necessary.

  3. Any gotchas we should be aware of or special backup steps beyond standard backup of wordpress websites, mysql db

Thanks,

Regina

Jeffrey,

Thanks. Oh one more thing to add would be good.

What apache php extensions you needed to install for the plugins in use.

Hi Regina,

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances I wasn’t able to write the doc for you.

We moved the taks to this week, I’ll keep you informed.

Jeff,

Looks good to me. I think this information will be sufficient for us to resetup when we need to. I'll update our wiki page with these details.

I think strk and Alex had some concerns about non-free plugins
https://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/sac/2017-December/009022.html

- in particular
Advanced Custom Fields PRO
WP All Import Pro (this one I don't even see perhaps it was removed)

It's pretty obvious to me looking at the back-end how the Advanced Custom Fields Pro is use, so probably not worth elaborating.

Jody et. al,
I believe all contract items are in order now and GetInteractive has fulfilled their check-off items. Is everyone in agreement?

What follows next?

Thanks,
Regina

What do we need exactly ? Is the use of a proprietary plugin
acceptable solution for that need ?

I'm not content about relying on a proprietary wordpress plugin:

You say it's obvious to you how it is used, can you explain that to
others ? What would be lost by removing that plugin ? Are there
alternatives ? Was there a clause in the contract about only using
free software ?

Whether or not you are we can get rid of it later. I guess the only question for holding up closure of this contract is this question you pose

Was there a clause in the contract about only using free software ?

I don't have contract in front of me, but I suspect not. Jody or Jeff you have the contract handy to confirm?
Even if it is not sure it's worth holding up since I believe GetInteractive has gone beyond the contract in other ways so to me sounds like a wash.

You say it's obvious to you how it is used, can you explain that to others ? What would be lost by removing that plugin ?

If you look in wordpress admin -

You will see a section called Custom Fields -> Field Groups it shows all places where this plugin is used and rules under which it is active.
" just as description says allows addition of custom fields on various pages and controlled by various rules."

So first off, I think the Sponsors page might break. We can test that out by deactivating the plugin.

Are there alternatives ?
--strk;

There is ACF (non-Pro version) which at least has a public github, but given no licensing info I can find, not sure what to make of the FOSSishness of it.
They at least accept pull requests.

https://github.com/AdvancedCustomFields/acf

What functionality we lose if we downgrade to Non-Pro that we are currently using I haven't investigated. Perhaps GI knows off hand and can elaborate.

I suspect there are others but mapping Advanced Custom Fields metadata use might be trickier or perhaps not.

According to this post https://support.advancedcustomfields.com/forums/topic/exportingimporting-field-values-between-installations/
the fields are stored in table wp_postmeta

Thanks,
Regina

Jeff,

Thanks.

Alex and strk,

Have any further concerns? Or can we just agree we are satisfied and move on to other things so board can push forward with final payment.

Thanks,

Regina

Hi Regina,

I’m just back from holiday.

I can confirm that we use Advanced Custom Fields PRO in the OSGeo website.

In the PRO version there are some additional features that we use for the OSGeo website. So currently the OSGeo website is relying on this plugin.

The PRO licence is a onetime payment of $25,- for a lifetime licence, so I don’t think it’s worth the hassle of removing or switching.

In the contract there is mentioned we will be using some paid plugins, and Advanced Custom Fields PRO is one of them. There is no clause that says we can only use free plugins.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Jeffrey,

To strk's point, it seems we don't have an activation key to upgrade the Advanced Custom Field PRO. Did you ever get an activation key for this or do we need to purchase the license to get an activation key?

Thanks,
Regina

I confirmed with Jeffrey Lasut and Michael Smith that that all invoices are paid and the 2017 project is wrapped up.

We have an hour a month for support to which we can use to answer some of the questions raised here, however we do not have to worry about holding up payment over these questions.
