[SAC] Funds for Mac developer account

Hi Michael,

Please reference this thread:
https://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/sac/2016-April/006530.html

I would like to purchase an Apple Developer account for the purpose of procuring code-signing certificates for Mac application bundles and package installers on behalf of the OSGeo. Note, the funds have already been allocated by the board (see Jody Garnett). The certificates will be distributed to official Mac packagers for OSGeo incubated projects, starting with QGIS, GRASS and GeoServer.

It is essentially $99/year:
https://developer.apple.com/support/compare-memberships/

Membership level: Organizations

Requirements: D-U-N-S Number, Legal Entity Status, Legal Binding Authority

···

https://developer.apple.com/programs/enroll/

Not sure if I qualify for the Legal Binding Authority bit, but am willing to bite that bullet to get this rolling. As far as purchasing the membership, either I can do it an get reimbursed or I’ll need another method of payment.

Please advise on next steps. Thanks.

Regards,

Larry Shaffer

Larry,

Do you want me to go ahead and do the purchase and then pass you the login information?

That might work well. My only concern is that the user/email associated with the Apple ID account is accessible by me and anyone else that needs to stay informed or administer the account. Maybe a generic group user and email, like OSGeo SAC <codesign@osgeo.com>, needs created?

I think it prudent that the ‘user’ for the Apple ID is virtual, if possible, so it is not tied to a particular individual. The ID is used for logging into the Apple Mac Developer site, of which one feature is generating the code-signing certs. The Developer program also offers pre-release versions of Mac OS X, which OSGeo developers could use to test their software against.

Thanks for the update. I’ll be working on code-signing and Mac bundling at the QGIS hackfest later this week (27th-29th), specifically towards migrating QGIS from 2.x to 3.x. Would be good to get something rolling by then. If not, no major problem, as I have a personal account I can use for generating interim certs to use for the Mac nightlies.

Hi Michael,

Finally got time to do this for the upcoming QGIS 2.16 release and next GeoServer release. However I am quite limited in what can be accomplished at the ‘Member’ level. I am requesting ‘Admin’ level membership (don’t think I need Agent level).

https://developer.apple.com/support/roles/

Upon, Admin level access, I will create Members relative to the package signing needs, but I can not create the Developer ID needed for each project, e.g. QGIS or GeoServer, as that is an Agent-level operation.

Also, as the Agent, you will need to OK recent Apple license changes, or I can not do anything with the account, create certs, etc.

Larry,

Looks like I have to register OSGeo with Dun and Bradstreet to get a DUNS number for the membership. I’ve just submitted the DUNS request and will let you know when I get a number to continue the Apple Developer account process.

Thanks for your help,

Sorry, meant OSGeo SAC <codesign@osgeo. <codesign@osgeo.com>org> not .com.

Sure we can make a alias for that if you like (Created with Larry so
far). Who else should be part of that?

Thanks,

Larry,

Just got the DUNS number but the email states I have to wait 24-48 hours before it can be used. I’ll try the Apple Dev program tomorrow at this time to check. Hopefully that will work.
