Subject: Important: Daylight Savings Time on your PEER 1 Dedicated Server

Dear Valued PEER 1 Customer:

We are alerting you to a potentially serious issue that may affect your
server in the coming month. In August of 2005 the United States Congress
passed the Energy Policy Act, which changes the dates of both the start and
end of daylight saving time (DST). When this law goes into effect in 2007,
DST will start three weeks earlier (2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in March)
and will end one week later (2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November) than
what has traditionally occurred.

How will this affect you?
If your server is currently set to a US time zone offset, and does not have
the appropriate time zone updates applied, the time on your server will
differ by an hour from the “real time” for three weeks in March and one week
in November. If you process time-stamped transactions, this will affect
your logging and processing.

What can you do about this?
Windows 2003 and RedHat Enterprise 3 or newer servers have patches available
that will address this issue If you are currently on one of these systems
and are subscribed to Gold or Platinum support plans, PEER1 will deploy the
necessary patches through our automated patching process. To verify that the
patch has been applied please use the appropriate tool for your operating
system (up2date for Linux, Windows Update for Windows). If you have an older
server, please follow the directions below:

Windows 2000 and Earlier Versions:
Windows 2000 Server and earlier versions have passed the end of Mainstream
Support and will not be receiving an automated update. All versions of
Windows can be manually updated using the tzedit.exe utility or other
techniques documented in Knowledge Base article 914387 and similar articles
for other countries, which is the preferred method of remediation for any
product outside of Mainstream Support. (The tzedit.exe tool allows you to
create and edit time zone entries for the Date/Time settings in the Control
Panel, especially for daylight-saving time). It is also strongly encouraged
to update to a newer OS where possible.

RedHat Linux Versions Earlier than Enterprise Server 2.1: RedHat has ceased
support for RedHat versions prior to Enterprise Server 2.1. It is strongly
recommended that you update to a newer OS on your server. If this is not
possible, and you require accurate time on your server, there are some
community support channels that we do not support that may be able to
provide solutions:
